Missouri approved Amendment Two in November 2018 which allowed medical marijuana. Become a Missouri patient

  • A psychiatrist with a license in the state can diagnose and treat debilitating mental illnesses like post-traumatic stress disorder.

  • Human immunodeficiency virus (or acquired immune deficiency Syndrome)

  • When a doctor determines that medical marijuana is an alternative to prescription medications for a medical condition that is chronic and the doctor recommends medical marijuana.

  • A terminal illness

  • Other debilitating, chronic, or medical conditions that doctors determine are Crohn's Disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and Crohn's Disease and Huntington's Disease as well as neuropathies and autism.

Application and fees

The following information must be provided to patients before they are able to submit an online application

  • The most important information is your name, date of birth, your social security number.

  • Mailing Address and Email Address

  • Missouri residency proof: A copy of a Missouri driver's license, Missouri identification card or a Missouri motor registration for a vehicle.

  • The physician Certificate Form must be signed and completed by a licensed doctor in Missouri. The certificate must be issued within 30 days of the date that the patient applied. To submit electronically, this form must be either scanned or photographed.

  • An original, legible duplicate of the ID Card issued to the government.

  • A parent or legal guardian's consent for patients who are not eligible to be emancipated, if applicable.

  • A clear, color photograph of the qualifying patient from the past three (3) months.

  • OPTIONAL: A statement that indicates whether the patient receives aid from any Missouri programs and, if so, which programs.

  • A statement that indicates whether the patient wants permission to grow cannabis for medical reasons.

  • Attestation statement (a brief statement that confirms the authenticity of the patient).

  • Signature and date.

  • $25 for qualified patients.

  • $25 for qualified caregivers,

  • $100 for the cultivation of patients.


How can you become the caregiver of someone other than yourself?

Caregivers must be 21 years old, and be able to provide medical marijuana to patients. Caregivers can take care of up three patients at a time, but patients are only allowed to have two caregivers. To designate their caregiver, qualifying patients have to submit an authorization. The form must be completed with the online application and a $25 fee.


Rules and regulations

Missouri doesn't allow you to become a medical marijuana user if you have a previous conviction. When you get a medical marijuana card, the patient and caregiver status can be removed when a person is found guilty.


Patients are allowed to purchase and own four ounces of dried, unprocessed marijuana every 30 days after dispensaries licensed by the state are open. If purchasing cannabis from a dispensary licensed by the state, patients will be required to pay a tax of 4 percent on the retail price.


Caregivers or patient who is licensed to cultivate may grow as many as six mature plants per patient in secure and locked premises. Missouri law allows patient cultivation. The department cannot provide information about the best places to purchase seeds.


Missouri Medical Marijuana Program insists that it does not offer reciprocity to out-of-state patients. The program is available only to Missouri residents who meet the eligibility requirements.
